ATF type ????

I read the service manual and searched lots of threads here. but there is no clear answer.

dex II is long gone.

some say just use Atf.

im think to get either Prestone power steering fluid, or mobil1's syntheic atf. what do you guys think ?

Dextron is backwards compatible. You can use any newer fluid in an older application.

Why would you put power steering fluid in your automatic transmission though?

dexron II was replaced by dexron III...now a lot of dexron V is on the market, but you can still readily aquire dexron III, which is what i would reccomend using in the auto trans. if you add p/s fluid to your trans, expect problems.

There's an impression in the power steering reservoir cap. I think it says ATF Type F.

sorry my bad.

I meant "what type of ATF/P.S. Fluid is good for the Power Steering function

Does "Type F" means Ford Type F ? if yes then I should be able to use use Mobil 1's Synthetic ATF in power steering right ? (since it supports Ford Type F)

Those Prestone Power Steering Fluid probably work, but I just looking for "the best"

See if Ford Type F is the same as ATF type F.
