ATF in a TII
ATF in a TII
Ok I have a jspec 88TII motor that I just put in my 88GTU. My question is It will be a little bit before I plug in the wire harness so should I put ATF in the motor to clean it out? I was all for it but I read a post by some one that said not to, so what is every ones experiences with it and I dont wanna hear about your brothers, friends, uncles, grandpas car! ACTUAL EXPERIENCES with doing this!
thanks
thanks
I think it's harmless. Fouls the plugs and O2 and smokes like a ******, but I don't think it hurts anything. It's a trick that's been used for years. I did it with no ill effects, filled my street with smoke but that's all.
this link was posted before check it out the both of you....

Thanks alot that is the kind of answer that I was looking for! But............is there any thing that I can put in there while the motor is just sitting to help kindof recondition seals that is safe? and what is MMO??? umm my friend andy always says MMO but it is usualy in refrence to 80s cammaro owners............MMO "Mullet Machine Opperator" lol
the above url is very informative, to add to this info
my opinion is that atf shouldn't even be used to help a
flooded motor, when regular 10w30 will do the same
thing without the worry of doing any damage.
Also
the info on web page says that carbon falls off the rotor
housing and can cause carbon lock, there needs to be a
correction added here as well, no carbon will ever accumulate
on the rotor housings so it will never fall off of that area,
rather it falls off the rotor face, kind of the same thing I guess.
also
I wouldn't say that a motor that has carbon locked is on
its last legs, carbon lock in most cases happens to motors
which have been sitting for an extended period of time.
a motor which has been sitting for extended periods, gets a
coating of oil on the rotor faces ((the oil wicks past the
side seals) osmosis?) which softens the carbon build up on
the rotor face which allows it to fall off, then next time the
motor is turned the pile of carbon can cause the rotor to jam
against the housing, I have had this happen to me, and after
opening the motor found nothing at all wrong with the
motor other than the carbon pile.
Atf will have no effect on the side seals but It can certainly
have an effect on the oil control ring o rings I have seen two
cases now where atf was put into a motor which caused the
oil control ring o rings to turn to mush causing massive oil
consumption.
In conclusion I would say that atf should only be used in
combination with revers rotation to unjam a carbon
locked motor.
My 2 cents
and no I am not trying to **** anyone off this time

hehe thats funny ****, Marvel Mystery Oil, cleans in mysterious ways....one thing you can do is when you get the engne running run about 1 quart of 2 cycle preium synthectic for the first 4 tanks, then go down to 1/2 a quart, then stick to 1/4 quart as long as the stock OMP is in good operationg condition
there are no seals that you can "recondition "
all of the seals in the combustion area are metal
all you can hope to do is put something in there to
soften the carbon so that hardened carbon doesn't
hinder the movement of the seals.

no offense here
friend of mine here got a 88 TII with 200k miles on original engine......yes, its true. it was sitting for around 4-5 years in a garage.
let it sit with MMO over night, pulled the plugs and turned it over to get as much out as we could. thing started right up and has been goin nice for about 3 months now. and recently it just started runnin a bit better with the help of some new plugs.

steel last time I looked was considered a metal
I didn't say steel because its a little to specific
some apex seals are not steel, and if I remember right the
corner seals are chromium, would that be steel?
