Question Is ATF even a viable option?

Hi all,
Just wondering if ATF or MMO would even be an option for me. My engine died on me, the rear rotor. The front still runs and has fairly good compression, The car can idle(alittle high, and drive, sort of) but is only running on the front rotor. I did a compression test on the back along with the fron, and the back showed around 0, 0, 0 (dont remeber exactly what, but it was low) Since I am considering a rebuild anyways could the ATF possible help, since I have nothing to lose. I really just need to get my car running for a couple more months. Really sucky time for it to die on me.

Thanks

~Anthony

I doubt that ATF will revive a dead rotor, but like you said, you have nothing to loose.

0.0.0 means totally funkified rotor and housing.

You'll be looking at a rebuild, and new rotor + housing

I'm surprised that it runs that well with no compression on the rear rotor!
Mine did the same thing. I tried ATF, it got it to run, but still no compression on the rear. Accellerated rather slowly, but would still hit 130kph and almost full boost .... eventually

Its still worth a try, though. Put it in the upper spark plug hole. Have a helper dump in the atf through a funnel while you crank the car over. let it sit a day or two, then fire it up. Remember to pull the EGI fuse!

IF you're that bad off, get in the damn thing and drive. You can still drive most blown engine rx7s, if they start fairly easily and arent allowed to sit for a while between starts (more than a few days). I have logged several miles on blown engine cars, and a customer once drove 570 miles from jacksonville FL to here to obtain a rebuilt engine/installation. They get poor gas mileage, and you have to have a 5sp to do this, and you'll wear your clutch out more, but all you have to do is idle it up to around 2krpm, and go down the road. ITs not like you're gonna hurt anything else.

Oh, adn atf wont do anything for you but make your exhaust smoke.

I would say, if you really know that you have lost a seal and that is causing your low compression ATF will not help.

However, I have seen a car with carbon lock on 2 of the apex seals, could not get them to start moving again. Tore down the turbo engine, all perfect inside, no marks anywhere, cause of no compression, carbon locked apex seals...So the story says, if I had taken more time and let the ATF soak more, I might have been able to get the seals to seal again and give compression.

So if your not sure you blew a seal, try it..
