(ARgh!Help!!) Towed it home... seems like no fuel (died in Interstate)

So I was crusing along on the interstate to work. Suddenly the add coolant light came on and the buzzer went off. A second later the car lost all power/died. I managed to coast it off on an exit and into a parkinglot.

At first I thought it was a vac leak. It wouldn't start well, but you could hear it hiccup when you tried to start it. After checking all normal checks, I started looking for the odd ****:

I removed the line to the fuel filter to see If I had fuel: nothing. (damn). I removed all the stuff in teh hatch, lifted the carpet and checked the pins on the fuel pump to see if they had voltage.

Four pins, The three had about 4 volts, and the other two had about 6.

Plugged it back in, still no fuel.

My buddy came and suggested hitting the fuel pump. I got a big wrench and smacked it a few good times. Turned the key to ignition/on and heard fuel gushing everywhere in the engine bay (yay!)

I reconnected the fuel line and started the car. I accidentaly let it die once because it wasn't warm enough for idle yet. I tried to start it and it hiccuped. Tried again... nope.

removed the fuel line again: no fuel.

--

So... What does the add coolent light and the fuel pump dieing (??) have in common? Do I need a new fuel pump, and if so what aftermarked ones are available that I don't have to buy a pressure regulator? What about OEM . This is my DD and I will be overnighting whatever part I get.

Thanks guys!

Kent

Honestly, Walbros are cheaper then OEM. But you really dont need one. What the correlation between the coolant buzzer and the fuel pump is, I have no idea.

Stupid question.. Did you try jumpering the test connector? Your fuel pump should not run unless the car is started, or the key is in the start position.. Other then that, you need to jumper the fuel check connector.

Yeah, just got done searching through the forum for some fuel pump info. I know I don't need a Walbro, but the fact they are cheaper makes them very attractive.

I'll go jumper and try again (this time spewing into a bucket instead of the arbies parkinglot )

This is the longest ******* day I've had in a lonnnnng time... 2:50am and its still not over

Well heres a good one for you guys.

I check the pins on the fuel pump connector: has power (prime check pins are jumpered, ignition on).

No fuel.

Remove fuel pump assembly. Curious, so I grab a bucket of water and hookup the battery charger to the pump leads. Pump kicks on right away and shoots water 3 feet away. So... somewhere between the fuel pump connection and the fuel pump leads (all 6 inches) im losing power.

That and im not sure if the pump relays are working ok...

Jumpering the connector gave you no gas, eh? Thats not good. Wonder if the resistor solenoid went out..

UPDATE: I spent all last night (from after I made the last post, to 7:30am) debugging. i removed the fuel pump and jumpered the physical connections there. Pumped fine.

Turns out that the ground pin on the fuel pump relay somehow came loose and wasn't making contact. I resoldered all the connections in it, and it works fine now.

What a bad night. I just got up, 3:53pm... heh... I think the add coolent was a coincidence air lock (hopefuly)
