Apexi N1 silencer

Does anyone know if using the optional silencer that is available for an APexi N1 muffler will reduce boost? And if so, how much?

I have heard from several people that they do work well. They are supposed to work well to compbat the droning at highway speeds significantly.
I have read that they reduce exhaust noise by 7db (I don't know if that is alot or not).

You guys must have n/a's because my 3'' dp/mp combo into n1 single is NOT loud at all. Maybe I'm just used to mustangs and fbodies though

FWIW there is a video if you search for it that compares the n1 to the n1 with silencer. It appears that it muffles it quite a bit.

The silencer does work really well - it takes ALL the drone and "bite" out of the sound. It does substantially reduce power - I remember a 3rd gen guy dyno tested the difference once, and it was like 50 horsepower!

But, the silencer is perfect for long car trips, a date, whatever. Takes away all the noise, then you can pop it out when you want to have fun.

They really do work well and are well worth the money. I don't consider it an "everyday" solution, but it's good for the occasions when you need it.

Dale

Yeah, but does it reduce boost pressure? I would assume it will reduce boost pressure by about 2 psi or so, simply due to the exhaust being restricted. Anyone have experience with this?

it is obviesly going to decrease boost becuase it takes the exhuast mine for example is 2 1/2 piping and takes it down to like an inch maybe an inch and a half, so there is going to be more back pressure this less boost.. but im not a turbo guy so just my opinion. oh yeah... and iv had my exhuast for like 3 months.... and iv had the silencers in for like 15 minutes total.... they do work... i would say by more than 7 dp. but is what it did for mine was make it really really deep sounding.... kinda sucks

you have to pay extra to get them
they do quiet alot but if you take them out you can feel the power difference.
small price to pay to keep the police off your tail

Yeah, it drops the boost down about 2psi on my car. It also lets the boost fall off towards redline.

Small price to pay for less copage and your hearing sharpness.

I have a turbo II w/ 3" downpipe, custom midpipe, and the dual n1 exhaust and its so loud i cant hear myself talk around 3500 rpms its so loud and i was considering the silencers because i have been cruising past cops afraid of getting pulled over :/
i will reply again if i do decide to purchase them.
