Apexi N1 exhaust, if you have it

Is it really as loud as Rotary Performance makes it out to be?

With down pipe, and high flow cat, I don't mind loud under WOT, but if I'm cruisin on the highway at 3000 to 3500, I'd like to be able to have a conversation.

and how about the silencer, does it help (if it is real loud) and does it have a noteciable (negative) effect on performance?

thanks for you info guys

it's not *that* loud, especially if you have a cat. If you had it on an NA w/headers, or a turbo with a straight midpipe then yes it would be LOUD.

I have the N1 on my 86 Sport. It has hollow cats and the stock "header". Everyone that has heard it loves the sound.

get it man.......its not loud at all. i have downpipe, mid pipe, no cats and RP catback on my T2...on my n/a i have Bonez superflow cat and N1 catback. they are about the same in noise. which isn't bad at all. its a nice tone...and not annoying while cruising. N1's also have a silencer available (which i also have) that can tone down the sound even more. go for it...excellent power for a great price and quality

Ok, so maybe I am the weenie on the forum.

I have a '91 TII with RP Downpipe, bonez Hi-flow cat and the Apex N1 Dual. I spent 5 hours in that car bringing down to college on its engine breakin drive. I had to stop one hour into the drive to buy ear plugs. It was killing me with the windows up and stereo on. My car is very very loud. And it drones like hell on the highway. It vibrates the inside of the car at idle. I am going to get some header wrap to help the noise/heat.

But on the upside (The side found on short drives). The sound is absoultly amazing At idle standing behind the car sounds like you are talking into a fan. IT is sooo deep. It vibrates your chest. And on the high way under a bridge I need to change my shorts it sounds soooo sweet.
But prolonged usage without hearing protecting should take care of my hearing.

Yeah, when I bought my T2 it had a N1 single and downpipe and straight pipe, and it was LOUD. Pull-me-over-loud. With a high-flow cat in place it's a little mellower, and with the silencer thingie it's actually pretty quiet until you get off of idle. Then it's still pretty noisy, but nowhere near as bad. It sounds much more throaty at high RPM with no silencer. With it installed power drops off sharply past 6K RPM, and the exhaust note starts to sound really raspy from all that exhaust being crammed out of that tiny hole. The low end power is higher with the silencer though. As has been said before, the unrestricted sound in a tunnel is AMAZING.... I prefer to drive it without the restriction, but NY cops can be jerks, so I run it with the plug installed most of the time.

I have the single N1 but mine is a NA too but its got a nice mellow drone to it.

But if you really want to quiet it down in the cabin, get some stuff called Dynomat there's a entry level and one thats 4 times more sound resistant. Take out all the carpet and spend a weekend putting that in on the floor (from the firewall to the spare). Local stereo shops should have it.

Ive helped put it in a 68 Chevelle (454 headers open pipes the works) It cut the interior noise level very dramaticly. It was a nightmare to ride in on the hyway but now its pretty pleasant. Still hear it but it isnt the extreme that it was. Just sounds like loud mufflers.
