I wanted to get a Apexi filter with adapter. Having a 88 vert apexi says they only fit on the 89-91. Why? I know that apexi provides best air filtration/airflow then other brand.

 

because the air meter for the 89 and up years are round and the older 88 to 86 models have a square meter, thus the adapter would be different...and not fit.

I dont know where but just buy the apexi filter and then get an adapter plate for your 88 you can get them for less than 15 bucks on ebay

 

You have to have the kit, because if you take a look at the apex filter, its open in the back, with no place to attach a hose clamp or the such.



Not the best pic, but see the adaptor? Well it bolts to the back of the filter. My suggestion is to buy the S5 kit and just put the apex adaptor onto the S4 AFM adaptor. It should work in theory, though I haven't tried it myself.
