Apex Spring/Rebuild Problem
I finally got around to putting my engine together... and I hit a snage with the apex seal springs. I just can't seem to get the smaller spring to stay where it's supposed to; or the larger one for that matter. Is there some kind of trick to it? Thanks for the help.

Oh yes! I forgot to mention. I'm using Atkins 2pc. Apex Seals. They say they're supposed to use the stock springs; so I doubt the application would be any different.

Well, with the engine facing downwards, and the rotor in place, I would just slide the lower peice of the apex seal in, then I'd slide the spring underneat it about half-way and then I'd put the top-peice in and push the spring down as far as I could get it to go, then I'd take the smaller spring and stick it underneath the lower apex seal peice, and leave sticking out and then grab the triangular corner peice and use the notch on the bottom of it to push the smaller spring into place as I put the triangular peice into place. I hope this helps in some way

Ouch! I hate to say .... but that sounds ****! Man, don't **** this portion up ... call me, 209-951-2223 Ask for Robert I will be back at home by 10am PST tomorow. Much easier to talk you through .. then to type the details.
Robert
for one thing have the seals in the slots before you drop the rotor in the housing ... use rubber bands to hold it if need be. and the small part of any 2 part apex should be facing you upon putting the springs in.

Well, he said two peice before I got a chance to respond! In that case, you should just stick the seal in with the rotor out and the larger spring underneath it, then slide the smaller spring in like I said about halfway then use the end peice to slide it all the way in (this is how I did it, and it worked fine for me) use rubber bands as Rpeck said (or you could do this with the rotor in the housing which is what I did) Either way, be careful, this is definatly a tough part!

small spring first .. the larger spring seats the small one... the large spring holds the corners out ... the small holds the middle out... I agree with Sonic... its easier while the rotor is in the housing.

Hahaha, it took me about two tries with the rotor in the housing, I had the big spring in first though then slipped the smaller in using the corner seal to push it in all the way, worked well for me. Good luck

Thats confusing me. How in the world can the springs not stay where they should???? I'm serious and not being a smartarse. If the rotor is laying there inside the rotor housing, and you shove the springs down the backside of the apex seal, how can they do anything but stay in place/??/?? I'm just misreading this post and only replied because I flat cannot understand why the springs could do anything but stay in place.
