You have 2MM seals assuming a stock engine.

All 86-95 rotary engines use 2mm seals stock. There is no difference in the seals between those years, they are all the same 2mm 2pc version from mazda now. The only thing they changed in the FD engine were the corner seal springs, which are a recommended upgrade for an FC during any rebuild and don't cost more than about $30.

Now, if the engine has been previously rebuilt, then there is no telling what you have, you will just have to wait until you get inside to find out.

Just buy some new rotary aviation seals. You dont want the hassle of 3mm seals.

I agree. NEVER use used seals under any condition. The cost of new seals is NOTHING compared to the cost of everything else associated with a rebuild.
Also, do not use the 3MM seals. You will spend more money making them fit that you will save buy getting the seals. Also, they really aren't as good as 2mm seals. They are slightly more resistant to detonation, but they don't seal as well.

Do not EVER under ANY circumstances cheap out on a rebuild. It will do nothing but cost you way more money down the road. Apex seals cost about $220 for a whole set at www.atkinsrotary.com Compared to the cost of a while rebuild, its really not that much.

The bottom like is that if you can't afford proper apex seals, then you can't afford a rebuild. Period.

Also, make sure you replace all of the springs with new ones.

If your short on funds, you can actually reuse the side and corner seals, just make sure to replace the apex seals and all springs.
