Anyone Used A Road Dyno?
My brother has something called a road dyno, it masures horsepower for a given car, based on ignition spark, vehicle weight, gearing, time to accelerate to speeds, etc.. various tech data.
anyway, i tried to use it on my 86 N/A, and it wouldnt work, anybody ever hear of this thing, or ever use it? thanks alot in advance, and if it works i'll post my results. -Matt

By the way, this is a portable electronic device, you hook it onto a spark plug wire, and then import the data to yoru computer after amking a few "runs"

I guess I'm supposed to be psychic and read your mind, but I'm not..
Email who, what's the name of the product? And if it doesn't work for you, why would it work for us?

Ok, silkworm, fair enough, butin my defense i was tired and hungry and delirious when i wrote that.
the link to the product web page is: http://www.microsmith.co.uk/rd/dyno.htm
I'm corresponding with the company right now trying to figure out how to get it to work, they assure me that it will.
it's worth checking out if i can get it to work with my rx.
check out the link and let me know what you guys think

I've heard the same thing about the gtech, but from all he results ive seen testing PISTON based engines, these "road dynos" are very accurate as long as you supply them with proper values for your car and the environment.

The g-tech pro is very accurate, if you use it correctly. We used it on my brothers 240sx on a flat strip of pavement and did the hp test. It read 210hp on the dyno it read 205rwhp. with only 5hp difference i believe that to be very accurate.
We did have problems trying to use it on unlevel road. It would always give different readings.

I've used a GTech in my Trans Am, I hated that damn suction cup, but the results were repeatable. Granted, it showed me 2 tenths faster than my actual ET, and 4mph faster trap speed, but it was always .2 and 4.. So as I did stuff, I could tell how much better/worse it went..

yeah, i made sure it was set on a trailing plug. and i'll try setting it to 6 cylinder engine type and see if it'll work.
By the way rs4racer, what has your brother done to his 240 to give it that kind of power?! and did it improve the top end at all.
I've been thinking of getting a 240 to put next to my 7, but i hate the way the ka24 feels in the 240, a truck motor to be precise. torque down low, but it might as well not even run past 4.5k, because it's weak like a little girl up at the top of the rpm range.

The reason for the 4mph faster trap speed is because the GTech doesn't actually calculate "trap" speed, it calculates instantaneous speed at exactly 1/4 mile (or whatever..) rather than the speed trap which measures the speed by the time it takes to cross two photosensors. If you are accelerating still, during the period after you cross the first sensor your speed will be higher than the trap speed.
(matt knows his ****... oh yeah.. )
(as for the 1/4 time being off, I blame that on you... (j/k))
