Air temp mod question.

If a 4.7k ohm 1/2 watt resistor was to be placed in the plug where the air temp sensor goes, wouldn't the car run better if the ecu reads that the temperature is in the high 50's? I saw some people selling this mod on e-bay making people believe it is a chip and it is not. So might as well make it public. They sell this for over $6.00 when it only costs 20 cents. Would this 20 cent mod work?

arn't the ebay things for the water temp??

anyways. I'm not sure what the ECU does for air temp changes. but my guess is if you made it hotter. it would just run a bit richer, and retard the timming more. not sure how that would help you.

It makes it richer and advances the timing.

are you sure? or is that just what the add saids LOL.. you would think if the ecu saw hoter intake air, it would want to retard more to prevent detonation.

unless of course you are running more then 50c now and are trying to make it see colder air??

It makes the ecu believe that the AIR temperature going in the engine is aprox 57 degrees farenheit (14c) at all times. That is all I know...

Why would you want to trick the ECU into thinking the air is colder than it actually is??? That mod is in the same boat as the FCD in my opinion.

The mod doesn,t make much sense to me.If you look at the Mazda manual(4A-81 or 4B-84),the factory air sensor has a resistance range of 41kohms at 68F to 3.5 kohms at 185F,so inserting a fixed resistance of 4.7 kohms would give fuel for 150F.
It might give you an easier hot start!
Now if you were to fix the resistance in the air flow meter temperature sensor at 4.7 kohms that would give you fuel for about 32F.
I would say its a waste of 20 cents which ever way.

What would happen if the air temp sensor is disconnected. Mine is not connected, neither is the pressure sensor or the oxigen sensor.

what ECU?? on the S5. you will get a code 11, and the computer will set it at 20C

pressure code 13 intake pressure fixed at 760 mmHg

02 sensor. you will lose a few % of gas millage on crusing. no effect at WOT

Why not? These weren't put on the engine for decoration; they're there to make it run better. The air temp sensor and pressure sensor retard the ignition at high air temps and high load respectively. Without them you could be running dangerously advanced ignition under certain conditions.

Ok hold on... My car is turbo converted what good will an N/A air pressure sensor do at this point? I have never run with it connected, I'm about to get rid of the tps also, acv is gone.
