Anyone make this for can to sell?

Not sure if this needed to go in the fabrication section but figured i would post here.. Can/Does anyone make underbelly trays in aluminum for the FC ? I would like to get one that goes to the back of the subframe. Any Ideas?

that is too simplified for an FC, the FC undertray has to bolt to the frame as well to avoid any air gaps for air to bypass the radiator airflow.

i'm sure they can be made but expect them to cost at least $150. more like 200-250 because of all the angles, amount of materials and cost of materials plus welding.

I have never seen anyone selling them, but it seems easy enough to make one if you had use of a bench brake.

I wouldn't mind spending $150 even $200 for a nice piece that fits the FC correctly and covers every corner?

it's difficult to find sheets that large in decent gauge for less than an arm and a leg.

I need to make an undertray too, I'll probably just use steel sheet or whatever I can find sturdy and cheap

So it needs to seal from bottom front edge of bumper to at least behind bottom of radiator? I'm guessing it would be better to add a bend or a piece of foam...some way to seal the bottom of the oil cooler to the shield?

Originally i would use Aluminum tape thats used for HVAC systems. I would like to have the function of a cut out so it doesnt have to be remove each time to change the oil like the link posted.

I also looked into sheets of aluminum and yes they are quite expensive in that size with a decent thickness i looked at the 1/8th thick which i figured is more than enough?

I get the sheets for free but not all the time. i know a nascar team a very common one and they give me old sheets they dont use. i just got a sheet but made a piece that goes in between the headlights, i got rid of my CF one. it turned out awesome.

don't really see the point in an undertray. Airflow has already gone through the rad. Would only help if you had a vmount and the rad was sitting farther back.

Please, correct me/enlighten me if i am incorect.

Incorrect.. The air entering the front of the car can still be rerouted if the undertray isn't there giving you a big chance running higher temps or making it harder to keep your motor cool..

If the underbelly pan is there the air really has no where else to go but to hit the motor and keep it at a decent temp. I've seen someone on here a while back make one and dropped his temps by about 15 degrees.

shine auto makes them for the FD in FRP for less than $200. maybe you should if you could get them to make one for the FC and start a group buy.

plastic breaks, metal bends. ever hit something real hard on the road? in canada ice is what gets us in the winter, ive cracked an oil pan before on ice (not in a 7) but i would have wished i had a better undertray... stock vr6 oil pans are over 400$ (the one I fucked) I would spend 200 anyday to prevent that. Mind you yu can never guarantee that you still wont break the pan, but you have a lot better odds... a lot of sevens are low enough to scrape as it is, i would for sure be in on a group buy if it were to ever come up.

but you have to think about if you go over a speed bump or something instead of just flexing ur plastgic tray u might bend ur 200 dollar metal tray, and then it wouldnt flow as good as the plastic tray because its bent..just sayin

I dont follow.... look how it sits under the car, if you bend that going over a speed bump and bend that metal its your fault and probably would break your plastic anyways. You know, if you do bend it, then take 20 min and get it off and bend it back.. no? the only disadvantage I can see is if its built with steel and not alluminum then is a weight issue... I have an na so that wont bug me any because no matter how much weight ill remove it will still be slow... but for some people it will make a difference.

Ill try to get around making one myself this spring when I get the car out of storage, Ill be using sheet metal though

decent gauge aluminum will still weigh a bit more than the plastic tray would.

i've used some HVAC grade aluminumized duct tape before, that stuff holds up very, very well. Lasts very long and is relatively moisture resistant. Yea if you make cutouts so you don't have to remove it for all your maintenance than it sounds like a good way to seal up the cracks. It's not too cheap though, I think like $15 dollars a roll, but it's worth it.

So is there anything you can buy at Lowe's/Home Depot to use for this? I have a piece of clear plastic (vinyl?) from a 52" projector screen that I may try out, but it seems like it might crack when you drill it. Idk yet, but I just don't like the idea of spending $150-200 bucks on this when I have more important things to take care of (but currently no undertray at all).

Agreed but aluminum has really no upkeep compared to steel that would be getting wet first time it rains and scratched up i could see it starting to get rust or surface rust rather quickly
