that's an awful lot of work for something that could just be replaced on its own with a few hundred bucks (less than making one would probably cost)

Getting that compound curve in the middle would be fun..

If were going to go to that much trouble, I'd make a mold out of a steel hood and do CF...

CF kinda expensive. Why dont people like fiberglass. The diffrence in price is far greater than the diffrence in weight. Just me though, Id do a fiberglass. If i mess up then Im not out a ton of cash.

Carbon fiber materials arent really expensize. The labor is what makes it expensive. You will only save 15% or so on the cost of fiberglass over cf. Cf is so much stronger that although it is more expensive, it takes less materials than fiberglass for the same strength. And if youre going to go through the effort of making a fiberglass hood, you might as well drop a few more dollars and do it right.

The same principles apply, and you use the same techniques. But carbon fiber it nothing like fierglass when it comes to doing a good job. You cannot see air bubbles under the cloth, and its a PITA to get the surface smooth and even. It is not for someone who isnt already proficient with fiberglass. Especially a hood.

I have family who do boat fiberglassing. I think he has a gun. So are you recomending me use FG? I made this hood vent with a brush. I would concider buying a gun if I decide to do a full FG/CF hood.
