It's just a vent in the side of the bellhousing. It lets air circulate around the clutch, and lets the smoke out when you cook it...

coincidentaly, auto trannies had a similar plate/blockoff that covered it, instead of the air port thing.

does anyone know where I can get a new one? the one I pulled is all warped and crappy looking, so I'd like to get a new one. Thanks for the input

I know it seems a little obvious, but Mazda is a quite a good place for new Mazda parts...

Personally I'd just get one in better condition from a wrecker.
