Anyone have a vert w/clutch over 110K

I have been away from home for a while and I would like to bring my Convertible to my location so I can drive it a bit (getting a little tired of the Rodeo...)

However, the clutch is engaging a little high on the pedal so I'm thinking about just leaving it home till I get back - I don't care if the clutch goes when I am close to home. But again, it would be nice to have it with me in the fall.

If it goes while I am at work, I can always get it serviced at the local dealer, but the 320 mile trip from home to work is a little daunting.

Does anyone have a convertible with more mileage on the clutch (110K) than mine? And if so, has it started slipping?

Does anyone know if the vert clutch will give warning first - or does it suddenly die?

I am just interested in responses from those who own a convertible as I am sure it has different engagement characteristics from the lighter cars.

Thanks

Before I pulled my original motor and tranny, the clucth on my 'vert had about 120K on it, but it was near its last days, with only about 5% left on it.

Its been my experience that the N/A clutch will start slipping before it goes completely. Also the clutch hydrolics typically fail around that same point (120K miles)

This probably doesn't help any, but my 'vert has 200k on it. However, not knowing the history of the car, I have no idea if the clutch and various parts are original or not. Seeing Mark's comments, I'd probably guess that it's not and has been replaced at least once.

I did not have any clutch slippage problems whatsoever.

Im guessing it was my original clutch, went out around 150k or so..and the clutch master cylinder went out not long before that

btw, my clutch wasnt slipping at all, it just quit engaging one day..we took it apart, and on the pressure plate side(i think?) there was no surface at all, just a small piece stuck under the plates...

Funny you mention this. I have a 91 vert with 137k on it. The clutch just started slipping out of no where. Im going to have to get it replaced SOON before it stops working.

I have a 90 'vert with 111K miles on it, the clutch was replaced at 60-70K when tranny work was done. It was replaced with a cheapo brand, and its starting to slip slightly already. Usually you can feel the clutch degrading, I would reccomend never replacing with the cheapest clutch you can find, spend the extra few $$ and get a good one. This clutch was useless from the biggining, horrible launches

my 91 vert has 122K on it. origional clutch, I believe. On my 86, it was slipping for about a month or so (at 90K)before it the car was out of commission.

I didn't have the $$ for a new one.

Since I have had the car I have noticed that just about everything excluding the tires was probably the original stuff. My Clutch hydraulics went out around 5-8k miles ago. BTW this is just a sport not a vert. But my car has almost 159k miles on it. I am willing to bet that it is the original clutch since the tranny is starting to grind a lot I am also guessing that has never been worked on either.

No slipping as of yet but I hope it lasts a bit longer.

My '91 'vert has 78,000 miles on it, and the clutch has been slipping for the past 5,000 miles. I have been driving it very easily so as to keep it in good condition, but if I ever let the clutch slip just a little bit too much from a stop I can tell for the rest of the drive that day that the clutch does not grab very well.

I just replaced the master and slave cylinders at 77,000 miles, as they were both shot. I also just filled up with redline MT90 because the 2nd gear synchro is all but destroyed.
