hey guys so i just bought my rx7 i love it but im having a hard time starting it especially in the mornings, i know that its a fuel issue i just replaced the plugs and wires and even before that it had hard starting issues, i just replaced the fuel filter so my only other suspisions are fuel pump or injectors i know 2 injectors have cracked pintles but i dont think that my issue my fuel lab shows 40psi constant fuel pressure so my guess is injectors? any ideas are greatly aprreciated! thanks

 

fuel lines ? has it been sitting for awhile ?

 

Does your car start fine when the engine has been warmed up? If so there is a sensor screwed into the back of the Water Pump known as the Water Thermosensor which helps to select how much fuel is injected into the rotor housings upon start up. If the proper reading is not received by the ECU it "could" cause too little fuel to be injected. The best way to determine if the proper signal is sent to the ECU would be to take a voltage reading at the proper ECU pin (terminal) and compare it to spec as stated in the FSM. A car with cold coolant will provide one reading while a car with warm to hot coolant will provide a differing read.

 

throttle body mod could also do it. I modded my throttle body so I have to play with the pedal to get the right mixture to fire up.

 

clean your injectors, check compression

 

once it warms up it starts easier but i still have to prime the fuel (turn it 1 click before ignition then off then back a few times and i still have to give it gas, ive been driving it daily for the past month or so, so i doubt its the lines, and compression should matter right? compression would only cause starting problems if its stupid low right?

 

I think the fuel pump only runs when the car is cranking. (Someone correct me if im wrong) So if the fuel pump comes on on acc. its not factory

 

check compression, its the fastest easiest test.

 

hmmm okay its a rebuilt engine so i cant imagine any problems with that but it ever hurts to check its snowwing now but ill get to it just use a regular compression gauge? on the leading or trailing?

 

remove both leadings, pull the EGI fuse, remove the schrader valve from the hose leading to the spark plugs, charge the battery, hold the throttle wide open and crank the engine over while watching each peak bounce carefully.

just because it was rebuilt means nothing, we've all seen what some people are capable of in some rebuilds.

you might want to at least visually check that your water thermo sensor. it could just be unplugged, or perhaps someone dropped the alt on it and cracked it (done it before).

 

okay ill check that too! can you describe it in super detail? this is my first rotary im good with normal cars but im new to these =] also i have probably about 7-8 plugs not conected i just didnt want to play with them and mess it up because it does run lol

 

will a bad thermo sensor allow the engine to keep flooding? sometimes the first start of the day, i have to give the car throttle or it'll stall. but once its started, it runs fine. and if the car is hot, no starting problems.
this morning the car started, and i didnt get my foot inside in time and it stalled. and now it wont start again. i imagine its flooded, but why does it keep flodding?

 

check cold start and trailing coil ... swap out ecu and check if that works ... had the same problem
