Anyone ever try dry ice before?

Just for the sake of drag racing, is it alright to use dry ice? I want to try and put it on top of my k&n drop-in. Will there be any adverse effects and do you think it'll help in a drag race? I was just wondering. Thanx

I have seen pics of guys doin this by putting their stock IC in a cooler or dry ice, then bolting it on right before they drove.

I thought of this cuz we were using some dry ice today and i figured this would be good to use at tracks cuz it doesn't melt, it evaporates from solid to gas. Plus it's cold as shet AND it cools in a downward motion, so if you put in on top of the filter the cold air will go down. NE ways i'll try it this wednesday and let you guys know how it goes.

I just got thru talking to a friend of mine that's going to race me. He said he didn't think he could win with the car being stock, that being 1 of the stipulations of the race. Well he mentioned Putting a can full of dry ice around the fuel line between the fuel filter and the injectors. He claims that it's a horsepower boost (supercooling the fuel or some **** ) anyone have anything to say proving this true or false?

You realize that dry ice is carbon dioxide right? It will just displace oxygen in the intake, and most likely cause a decrease in power from less oxygen being available in the intake air. It will be colder, but it wont to any good if theres less oxygen.

Edit, it would work great on an IC though.

It works good...pretty sure it wont harm anything. It didnt with our RX Subaru. I'm not sure of the price though or where my boyfriend bought it.

Although I could be wrong ...it never caused any damaged when we used it *shrug*

I am prob. Not helping you

EDIT: Sorry didnt read post all the way, we used it on his IC, not filter.

Hell yeah it works.....I use regular ice in conjunction with a garden water sprayer. I went from a 15.1.....to a ....14.72. That's awesome considering that a bag of ice cost like a $1.50 Now i never leave for the track without it.

As for cooling the fuel.....that's old school. Even I know that, and i'm new school. It's called a cool can, and is illegal in solo2 and Prosolo. Sunnit and Jegs sells them. Yeah it helps, especially if you have a carburated motor. their cool cans are expensive, but if you fill them with dry ice, it's very effective. I say go for it.

Dry ice makes nice explosive devices if you need to make some noise.

Are you guys talking about putting it on your IC during a run? Wouldn't that cut down on the airflow?

dry ice IN the intake is not a very smart idea. It'll evaporate back into CO2 gas which we know doesn't help combustion very much.

I always ice down the IC before I rune the quarter also put one on top and sides of the upper intake. I just have some one take them off right when it is my turn to roll into the burnout box and close the hood I also push my car thought the waiting lanes so that by the time I get up there the car will be between the C and normal operating temps. Now some times not everything goes according to plan like some junker of a Chevy will break down at the end of the track just as I pull into the burnout box and let me tell you I lost 3 thenths in the 1/4 because of it.
