Anyone ever try this?

I just saw this little pos on ebay and got to thinking, couldnt you just switch a different temp sensor that had a bit of a higher range and have a pretty decent temperature gauge for like $20?

those get progressively less accurate the farther the temp goes from the median point, which is substantially lower than what you will most likely be using it for.

Thats why I was saying swap in a different thermo sensor. I just thought that the panel with the lcd's mounted in it wouldnt be such a bad buy, you could use one for oil temp and one for water temp, or possibly even intake temp?

Yah if you could switch out the sensor or figure out how to make it more accurate that'd be nice and cheap, I'd think.

I went ahead and ordered enough parts to build a thermostat with a 3.5 number lcd panel readout. Now im just wondering if anyone has any idea how the stock temperature gauge works so I might possibly be able to splice my project into the stock wiring harness to prevent having to tap another hole. So all you wiring gurus out there dig deep and let me see what you know
