The hood scoop doesn't actually get air ramed into it. If you see the airflow chart of the FC you can see that the air isn't near the damned thing.

Thats odd that a stock intercooler gets nice and cool on a cool night if no air is going in there.

Even better when they mention a flow chart that's specifically for an N/A

I think its the front bumper that deflects the airflow isn't it? If thats true then why would it be different for a TII?

Because there is a hole in the hood... a hole leading to a low pressure zone (engine compartment). So there won't be as much of a positive pressure on top of the hood. Does that mean there is "a lot" of air flowing in? Hard to say with out data. But I bet there is more flow into the intercooler if you leave the belly pan on.

also the scoop is raised. which changes the aiflow around it creating lower pressure at the front of it...maybe.

as for the original question, maybe a reverse vent for the front of the scoop. it bolts in without any modification i believe, you'd just have to find one...and then get it painted to match your car. something like that mey help hot air escape from the engine bay.

I think he's looking more to ducting cool air to the area around the turbo rather than just venting heat from the area.

That's what Subaru did with the Legacy and WRX. If wouldn't be too hard to fab something from sheetmetal, but the underbonnet clearances are pretty tight.

You could also do this.

Jeez I wish people would stop regurgitating this BS! You don't understand what that diagram is even showing, so unless you have some proof the scoop doesn't work, shaddup!

yea, mazda just put it there to look cool......... i have seen some vents made by re-a and others, but they dont force air towards the turbo, but reverse the flow out of the hood, adn over the roof of the car creating better flow under the hood and thru the radiatior adn fmic.

-Chris

p.s. it wouldnt be that hard to make, and those i mentioned are a couple hundred bucks

So is it worth ducting cooler air from either the original hood scoop if you've got a FMIC (or from some other location if you still have the stock IC) to the external area of the turbo to help cool things down just a little bit?
