Any suggestions?

Hi,

I am having some problems with my 89 n/a. I recently replaced the pilot bearing and throw-out bearing. During the process, I stripped two of these:

I replaced the bottom one, but I could not get to the top one (they're actually on the sides of the transmission). Anyway, I don't know exactly what these (sensors?) are for. Well, I added some manual transmission fluid, put the exhaust back on, the clutch slave cylinder back on and when I go to start it, the clutch pedal is stuck to the floor, but I am still able to start the car. I pump it a few times and it's fine again, but is a little soft. Anyway, the tachometer doesn't budge at all. It stays at 0. When I step on the brakes, the car stutters and then stalls. It is very difficult to shift and when I am able to, there is a lot of noise. As I said, I just replaced the pilot bearing and throw-out bearing and unless I did it incorrectly, it should be fine, right?
What's this new noise?
Why is it so difficult to shift?
Why is my tachometer not working?
Why does my car stall?
Also, for the bottom sensor, does it matter which wire the red one goes into? There's two red wires coming from the sensor and the adjacent wires are red and black. I can't figure out which one is which, and I switched it around. Don't know if I have it right.
I don't want to take the transmission back out again, because I don't have the time to do it over and I get all dirty and greasy and it takes days to come off. I shaved my head both times that I had to go under the car! >: )

Well, if anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know. I'm probably going to try adding some more fluid. I don't think not having one of the sensors on is the problem. Is that sensor for reverse? neutral?

Thanks in advance!
