Any difference in '87 and '90 intercoolers?

I have an '87 Turbo and have an oppourtunity to pick up an intercooler off of a '90 turbo, and I was wondering if there is any difference between the two, i.e. is the 90 a higher capacity design and would I see any performance benefits from making the swap? Thanks!

I beleive there are vaccum fittings on the back of the 87 & 88 ones that are not on the back of the later model ones.

Yes, the 87-88 has a couple of fittings that the 89+ doesnt. The 89+ has a slightly better flowing inlet tube. And its welded to the endtank.

Basically, I wouldnt worry about swaping, stick with your 87.

But...If you want a little better cooling, you can take the IC and have 1/3 of it welded to your stock IC (on the sparkplug side). Its pretty simple, just make sure you cut the IC's so when you put them together to weld, they fit.

Its makes it a little better than stock, but dont expect anything like a FMIC.
