Question atmospheric pressure sensor

I have an 88 GXL, and i was wondering if this was normal. When i start my car and when its idling, i remove the hose that connects to the atmospheric pressure sensor from the engine, and the engine idles higher, but then drops when i connect the hose again. Is that something normal???

Also to me the atmospheric pressure sensor box looks like a boost sensor box. How can you tell the difference?? Theres no sticker or any marks on my box.

Thanks

LoS

that pressure sensor you are talking about is the same as the boost sensor on turbo cars. the one on the pass. side strut tower. they usually have a sticker on them that says "pressure sensor"

the "atmospheric pressure sensor" is actually inside the car on the pass side down by the ecu

the car idles up when you disconnect the hose b/c you are creating a pretty major vacuum leak, letting more air into the engine. something to be expected

Should be a number stamped on the top such as N326. What is your number? Call a Mazda dealer and he'll tell you if you have the right animal. OOOOOR, write back and someone on this forum might confirm what you have. By" what you have", I mean a boost/pressure sensor for a 88 or a 91 or a 86 etc.
And just to exercise my fingers.....its really funny how the 87factory manual refers to it as a BOOST sensor for the normally aspired cars and a PRESSURE sensor for the turbo car. Bugs me.
Everything NINER said I agree with. I'm just exercizing my fingers and filling some time until someone answers my post about injectors.
