All 2nd gen oil pans are more or less the same. The only difference is some of the later cars (like 90-91) didn't come with the subzero injection system. This is the setup that injects antifreeze into the motor if the temperature is below 0. Mazda discovered it was just a bad idea, issued a TSB to unplug the damn thing, and ditched the system all together on the later 2nd gens.
Anyhow, all oil pans are the same, S4 and S5, TII and NA. There are 2 sensors - the oil level, and the temp sender for the subzero system. The oil level is a float, the subzero is just a contact temp sensor.
Don't worry about the subzero system - just leave it unplugged. I usually break the wire off the sensor and leave it to plug the hole.
BTW, on that Jspec with the dented oil pan - I would also make sure the oil pickup didn't get damaged. If it is, that's a way simple procedure with the oil pan off - just 2 bolts. Again, that part is universal for all 2nd gens.

It's not dented. It's punctured. Like someone hit it with a pick or screw driver.
I've pulled the engine to short block so I know everything is in ok condition.
I didn't see an oil float. Are they in the same spot or in diff locations? I'll check it out once I get home.
Anyways I'm in Arizona and it never gets below 30 in the winter. My 88 GTU doesn't have the cold start assist either and the manifold came blocked off from the factory while my 88 SE has it.
