I just did mine, in Illinois its 25 years or older. There are two types, antique an expanded antique, I did expanded antique. The only restriction is I can not drive it during winter, unless driving to/from servicing or fueling. Otherwise, during spring, summer, fall months I can use it as I please. The benefit is a huge discount in plate renewal annually, it's about half the cost of the regular plates.

Just marked a box that says my car is indeed old and have been riding the wave since
Illinois does not actually say it has to be stock, just that equipment appearance must be the same as or as safe as original. In other words, it just needs to work as well, and be as safe as the original condition.

Ohio is 25 years but it can only be used in parades. That's BS

Those are Maintenance Drives

Here in Ohio, 25 years is the rule. Project OldTree has Historic Plates and is exempt from emission tests even in the stupid E-check counties. Plates are good for 50 years . Coincidentally, she turned 25 on 11/11/11 while undergoing the 20B conversion. As far as "parades only" is concerned, it's total BS. We have enough club activities to fill a whole calendar such as DGRR, Sevenstock, Friday nights at QS&L, etc. Plus, these cars need 'maintenance drives' too...

My SA is antique tagged for life. TN is 25 years. Unlimited use on weekends, for repair purposes, shows, parades, sales purposes etc. no Monday through Friday to work or grocery shopping kind of driving though. I take advantage of the loophole of being an auto technician as I can say I’m taking it in for an alignment or inspection etc. on the week days.

i choose not to antique the GTUs due to the restrictions as I enjoy driving it more often. There is no emissions test here anyway.
