Antique Registration?
Was curious if anyone had managed to get their rx7 registered under an antique auto?.... Mine will be 20 years old starting 2008 and I live in TN. It is also a secondary vehicle. The perk for this is the fact that you dont ever have to register it again after you get the new tags. Anyone who knows any specifics or managed to do this themselves please get back to me.. Thanks

Not in my state it dosn't, they don't even look at the car, but they do have mileage restrictions for the car as soon as it is registered classic or antique, this is what they keep an eye on.

In AZ, you can get it regeistered as a classic after 15 years.
No emissions required.
They require you to get collectors insurance.
They don't technically put any milage restrictions, but the insurance for collector cars is very strict. Every company has their own req.s but the basic idea is X amount of miles, appraised at X amount of $$, you MUST have ONE car per person in the household, not counting the collector car.
The insurance is dirt cheap, but often want to see a clean record for 10 years. Every company is different tho.
I looked into it just in case I couldnt pass emissions.

I have 2 of mine insured as classics.
here in NY there is no benefit to historical registration.
I have it on my Jeep CJ, not only do you have to renew registration, but
they only give you one year at a time instead of the normal 2 year registration.
as long as I can have them insured as classics I could give 2 ***** about the registration, lol

By the way, I checked and its 25 years here in TN. Also there is restriction where as the vehicle may only be driven on saturday and sunday. You must also participate in at least one car club. Crazy, doesnt really seem worth it, considering if you get caught driving on any other day you will be fined (normal registration fee) as well as getting the antique registration revoked (5 years).
AZ didn't make the restrictions here other than 15 years old and collectors insurance. The Insurance company is the one with all the restrictions I couldnt seem to meet.
Some ins co. will allow you to drive it during the week, but not as a daily driver. It can go to events, shows, cruises, and an occasional Friday to work type of thing.
Other restrictions where like no DUI in 10 years, must have 10 years driving experience... blah blah blah... it was a cheap monthly rate, but I couldn't seem to meet all the requirements.

Depends on your state and how many rules you're willing to break. Currently I'm on Illinois' Expanded Antique plate which allows the car to be daily driven between March-October (no mileage or driving restrictions at all). The car technically has to be bone stock, and I wouldn't doubt an officer would catch you for it, but they didn't check my car out at all. Just marked a box that says my car is indeed old and have been riding the wave since
Gonna depend on where you live. Here in Alberta, it's 25 years for antique registration, but the car can't be driven except as part of club activities, parades, exhibits, and transportation to and from such activities. That would cover a lot of my driving (to and from autocross events, often out of town), but not the occasional drive to work in the summer, or other nice-day drives I find excuses to take the 7 for.
I've got antique plates on my '85 in NH. They gave me some hub bub about it just being for parade cars but mine is show quality and I only drive it part of the year. I put both plates on just to be safe and end up logging about 7,000 miles a year weekdays and weekends.

Wasn't thinking about the states
