antenna replacement sugg.

Has anyone found a manual telescopic antenna that retracts all the way down flush?
Or, anyone tried the ebay antenna kit ?
I'd rather go with a manual antenna and don't have to deal with the motor or mast crapping out. I want to replace it be done with it for several years.

A link to where you bought it would help a lot.

I just hop over to Walmart and get the universal Rubber masted antenna, about 18 high, flexable. Both my cars have them now.Only about 18 bucks too.
Now you can leave your car in places where they like to snap off antennas...
I hated that..

Im using one of the inside antennas, the flat strip that sticks to the inside of your windshield "or in my case rear window". And i have no complaints at all. Just left the factory power ant where it was to keep the hole plugged, plan on filling in the hole eventually for a nice clean look.

Yea, I thought of that and found some removable antennas but after awhile those things looks like a limp *****.

The reason I need a full retractible one is because I need to use a car cover.
I found some manual retractible antennas on Ebay but concerned about the base diameter.
Someone out there has GOT to have installed one ...gees !!
I don't want to replace a 25 yr old part with another 25 yr old part. That's idiotic.

You could put some Leather Frills on it and say you are into S& M if it starts to Sag...

Get one of those s2k style shorty antennas, shouldn't interfere with a car cover

I get new antenna assemblys (new to me lol) at the junkyard, & just buy a new mast from mazdatrix.com. About $70 all in all. Then you've got the OEM power antenna which will last a few years at least, and it gives your car a wonky R/C car look

It's supposed to come off anyway to get to the retaining ring.

I know I need to take it off to get to it. I'm just checking if anyone knows the size.
There's no way I'm cutting out a hole on a 45,000 mile body to fit a larger diam antenna.
It may be 25mm, same as the Miata.

Thanks for measuring. Went and ordered one from Crutchfield.
It's probably 25mm. For Mazda they had 19 or 25mm.

Just not to get Slammed for Thread crapping,That Walmart kit fits with no drilling and the mount that the ring screws to is a little smaller that the Hole on the car.It has a adjustable "slant" too.

I would find a plug for that antenna hole. If you must have fm (I use spotify, **** gay music and commercials), I'd try one of these hidden units. Could possibly mount it between tail lights and carpet.

Well, ordered a manual antennna from Crutchfield with 25mm base and fit perfectly.
Under the spoiler was more room than I thought for aftermarket antenna base.
F*ck the auto crap.

I didn't think it was that hard to deal with. A powered ariel is nice. Mine broke and I replaced it with a universal. On the plus side, out gets erect when you turn it on.

So is a retractable one. Takes all but 3 seconds of your life. Nice to know it will never fail.
My original unit motor crapped out so changing it with another used 25 yr old unit was stupid and universal China made unit was more stupid. Anything made in China was never bult to last.
