Unhappy Another smoking fc thread

I always do a lot of research before i start a new thread. usually i can find the answers to what im looking for, except this time.

I've got an 88 n/a vert that i just put an exhaust on, bonez race pipe and a borla catback. everything ran just fine, until recently it started producing white smoke and smelling like fuel on start up. it smokes for just a few seconds and then stops, until the next time you restart the car. would this have anything to do with not having any cats?

thanks for your help..

Yes, light white smoke = fuel, either that or coolant which I am pretty sure you would of smelled by now. These beasts always smell like fuel, I am surprised you didn't notice it with the cats! As long as it goes away then you are fine.

Your injectors could need to get flowed and cleaned out, one or more may be leaking slightly causing what your are seeing to happen.

The start map is excessively rich, which is why so many people develop hot-start problems. It wouldn't surprise me if that's all it was.

so wait you guys are saying to check the cat , might need a new one?

cause i have the same problem smokes for couple of seconds and stops but smells a lot like fuel when the car turns on nd stays on for a while....

idont if its the fuel injectors needed to be changed or clean...

and to add it consumes a lot of fuel i think a lil bit too much...
any ideas ?

white smoke means oil is burnin, and arnt these motors oil injected? without the cats maybe you can just see this more vividly? just a suggestion... and did your race pipe have a place to hook up the back pressure piping to open the aux. ports? Im just curious as to how your getting them to open and still replacing the cats..

This is an old thread....

White smoke= light fuel or coolant
Dark/grey/blue smoke = OIL or excessively rich

there is no such thing as back pressure to open the auxiliary ports..... Plus maybe he just completely removed them all together and wired them open.....
