Another RX7 wont start thread....

Ok i took the battery out of my 88 RX7 TII because i had to use it in another vehicle. i put the battery back in after it was done and it was dead because the other shitty vehicle wouldnt charge it. so i go to push start it down the road and it WONT frickin run! its getting fuel and spark because little puffs of smoke come out of the exhaust, but it wont run. As soon as i pop the clutch with it in gear while im moving the tach jumps to 8k rpms even though i can tell by listening its not at 8k. A few months ago i had changed out the AFM with a spare i had, and right before i push started it i changed it back to the original one....anyone have any ideas... ohh yeah my boost gauage is also jumping up and down rather fast while i am trying to push start it.

decent... i got pics galore! mine is the black TII

www.cafes.net/rotory/pic1/dscn0020.jpg...hehehe:)

www.cafes.net/rotory/pic1/dscn0003.jpg...you can see the messed up part in the back and the wing is burned(vandalism) i have since replaced the hatch.

www.cafes.net/rotory/pic1/dscn0008.jpg...side view

I would much much rather fix the car than sell it i just dont know where to start. I'm going to change out the AFM again because that is the only thing I have changed since it ran last. I checked for vac leaks around the AFM and TID but did not see any. The clamp on the AFM is tight(triple checked), AFM is plugged in(triple checked), compression is good, i dont have a compression tester but i pulled the plugs on the rear rotor and pulled the egi fuses and there is three even, loud pulses. Do you have to reset the ECU after you change the AFM? ANy ideas i will try guys I dont have any money though so i cant do anything like say buy new fuel injectors. i know thats shitty

well if the battery is crappy, here's my take: Chances are the alt is laboring to charge the bat. And thus messing around with the rest of the electrical components on that circuit because the battery can't recharge?

That's my theory. So I guess that's a start.

well the battery isn't crappy but it is totally dead so you are right about that...it might be flooding really bad because of a weak spark. What else is on that circuit? And i dont know why the tach kept hitting 8 grand everytime i let off the clutch... we werent going but maybe 20 mph. Im going to change it back to the AFM that i was using before i changed it today and try jumping it off not pushing it off...I have a spare ECU i can use too but i dont want to go that route. Any one in the middle TN, nashville area want to come help me troubleshoot for a day or 2 i will buy the beer and supply some food. i really need some help...could clogged cats cause this?? Let me say this also...the car would kind of catch but it would buck and smoke would be coming out like its running rich...i just dont know...help!

Well. Here's a stupid question.

Um, the bat. cables aren't crossed and are on correctly?

hitting 8 grand everytime i let off the clutch

If memory serves, the tach is hooked up to the ecu. So if you're not getting the right voltage because the battery is dead and or sucks for some reason, it might send erratic signals to the tach.

Get a new quality battery. I suggest you start from there before you have more problems elsewhere. You might be pleasently surprised how much a new battery could help this situation.

Keep me posted, I'll try to help as much as I can being in CO.
