Unhappy ANOTHER Rebuild Question?

Well here it goes, I seriously think that my car needs a rebuild. Moreover, in late fall I am going to college so I can't spend too much money and as all of you know I live in MAINE!!!! By the sounds of it I am going to need to find someone who is underground or I need to do it myself. How much of a trouble would it be since my dad works in construction I have a lot of tools to help. Basically wondering parts vs. labor for me or money going to a dealer? I am a little bit pissed but it will be good to have a good new engine.

If you do it expect to pay around $1100-$1500 for a GOOD and COMPLETE rebuild depending on the condition of the engine and how much of the main parts you can re-use. Thats also assuming you have access most the tools including the ones used to measure parts.

For a dealer, I think a remanufactured engine is about $1700 and then they charge about another grand to remove and re-install.

Ok 2700 is feasible.....I think.....I mean do most of these places like Atkins and others ship their engines as long blocks or short blocks? Lets talk J-spec? I run a 89 GXL and heard all the Jspec engines are turbo. Doesn't this create a problem... DOn't be shy, let me here everyone's opinion. Maybe we could get some people together that want to rebuild that is around me and maybe do a group thing. I DON"T know .....just throw out the opinions. Thanks guys

Yeah and transmission. Got one you gonna give me? Don't get me wrong I would love a turbo like no tommorow. However, isn't there gonna be a big hike in price. Please throw out figures guys and anything and I mean ANYTHING is good. thanks again.
