And another project begins...

Ok I just ordered my swap, complete engine, tranny, turbo, intercooler, cut harness ect. Here is the plan. Since I will already have the engine out should I go ahead and get it ported before I put it in? Seems a bit silly to install everything and then pull the engine to get it ported. or to not port it at all since it's out. or just leave it alone for now? Supposidly it will come to me with between 20-50 k miles on it. Should I just wait until I have issues to rebuild and port? I don't need the car as a driver so My better judgment is telling me to get what ever work i want done first. I want to do this right. So those of you that have done this before let me know.

if you have the money id have it rebuilt right off, start with a fresh engine. im assuming its a jspec, and if it is there is no garuntee how long those things will last. i have everything i need for a conversion, just saving the money to rebuild the engine

It is JSpec and I too will have to save the pennys for the rebuild. I have a few friends that run a rotary shop locally here so I am hoping they will let me work with them to rebuild and get it ported. but we'll see. Seems a shame to let them have all the fun.

what was the damage for the JDM motor, turbo, and harness, etc. What IS a ballpark figure for a TII rebuild? If you dont mind me asking?

Rebuilds are around $2000 shipped. Might as well get the engine to your final dream when you have the chance.

Im doing an S5 swap on a J-Spec engine too and if you want to port it you should definently port it and rebuild it off the bat but if your not that big into porting it yet then, you should do a compresion test on it if its spiking good (100 - 120 psi) on all rotor faces then i dont see why you shouldnt drop it in and run it like it is. but if i had the money to rebuild it then i definently would.

I paid $815 for the motor and $450 for the freight shipping. So shipping killed me but $1265 total for complete engine and tranny. Not too bad. As far as the rebuild... Waiting on my Puerto Rican contact to get back with me. They are the experts with rotary as far as I am concerened.

I hear the Puerto Ricans in Florida make 13B jet skis down there. You ever see one?

lol sounds fun but no, I've never seen one. I did see some pictures in my browsing of a guy with a rotary lawn mower. Not sure if it was a 13b or a 12a but it was there.... What ever works I guess.

Back to my subject and lack of searching can I use my coil packs from an NA on a turbo? I didn't see coil packs on the turbo ii conversion parts list. I probably won't keep the stock ignition system for long anyway but figured I would ask. Oh and what is a reasonable price to pay to have some one do a rebuild? Or should I buy the DVD and books and do it my self? The rebuild kits I have seen are quite pricey and I assume the labor is just as expensive.

Anyone on my coil pack question?

Any who... More on the project. Today went out and we pulled the tranny, driveshaft and what remained of the stock exhaust. Tomorrow if everything goes as it should I will be pulling the rear end. My motor should be here early next week. And the other parts should start trickling in.

The parts catalog has the same listing number for the TII and N/A coils.

Ok so the motor will be at my house Tuesday before Noon, I want so bad to go ahead and put it in, but I must refrain... lol Any pointers? I'm trying to do this in stages so I don't miss anything or screw something up... 1st priority is Engine (rebuild, large street port & polish) exahust, and drive train. Then suspension, then replacing the interior, then body work and paint. Then after that comes the fine tuning. I think I have decided to go with a Haltech as long as I can still have A/C with it, which I believe I read some where that I could. As soon as I actually get my motor I will start throwing up pics..

Question, It may sound stupid, but here's the deal. When this motor comes in tomorrow, i am going to run a compression test on it if I get good readings then I don't think I am going to open the engine. Because after doing some reading and talking to a few people I know it seems that with forced induction porting the motor isn't going to make a huge difference. And if that is the case I will wait till the engine goes to rebuild it and street port it. But I really want to hear more from those that have been there and done that.
