another failed emissions thread.

so, I tested my FC for emissions today. I failed in CO, and NOx. the most allowed for NOx was 3, I got a whopping 7.6. and the most allowed for CO was 20, I got a mere 97.4

anyone have any ideas to help get these down? what specifically causes the large amount of CO? wouldn't that be just unburned fuel? and how about NOx? why might these two be up so much higher than eerything else?

I've got my airpump hooked straight to the exhaust, and a 17 year old cat welded in the middle, with 2.5 inch piping, and some small leaks they didn't notice.

also, my car always floods when I try to start it after its warm... and I just cleaned the injectors before I put them in, and they didn't leak. also, its idleing at 300rpm...or not at all, so I had to put some tension on the throttle cable. isn't the turbo supposed to adjust automatically? or is the idle screw on the bottom of the TB? if so, which way is it supposed to be turned to increase the idle?

oh, and BTW, my engine is a S5 jspec turbo, with the S5 manifolds, and a S4 TB. all emissions removed(except what I posted above) no PS or AC. OMP removed and running premix. also, I have a walbro fuel pump. fuel system is otherwise stock.

might I be able to just get a FPR, and turn it down a little...maybe along with a new cat? what do you guys think about that?

Sounds like the cat either doesnt have a CO/ nox oxidising brick in it, or its worn out to me.

Do a search under my screen nane and look up Gateway Clean Air Program. You'll find what you need, I think. Here, I did it for you.

the high NOX could be a buggared EGR valve, check it to make sure that its working as per the FSM

I've heard that I did. Never saw it first hand though. I guess you gotta make that thing scream to do it. Well, before I replaced the converters it shot all kinds of crap out. Broken apex seals, sparks, pieces of melted converter.

Seems like too much work. I think the best course of action would be the correct catalytic converter replacement. Oh well, to each their own.

you need a cat and CO isn't produced from unburned fuel its produse from you air fuel mixture being to rich. not the right air fuel ratio. the cat could cause the co problem. belive me im emision certified in pa.

well, wouldn't the mixture being too rich cause unburned fuel? because if all the fuel is burned, its either stoich, or too lean.... so that leads me too believe that being too rich would mean not all the fuel is burned... therefore there would be unburned fuel.... therefore unburned fuel would cause the CO.

does this not make sense?

oh, and I'm NATEF certified in engine performance. LOL! seriously. but I don't know how I managed that... not that it really means anything anyway.

Does that really work?

I'm thinking about doing that.(get a PO box in a neighbor county with no emission) But wouldn't the address on your driver's liscense have to be changed?
