Another Car dont start thread.

ok, I drive an 87 gxl with around 130, 000 on it. 5 speed transmission. Car blew a tire one night, te next day I went to start it up, and it doesnt get spark. Tries to turn, can hear it crank, starters fine. My guess is the fuel pump. Any other guesses?

And can you please give me a roundabout price on the work needed to replace the fuel pump? And if you suggest something, can you give me a roundabout price on it as well?

I just had my fuel pump done. Among a few other things the shop decided to add in on me, it was 450. I would figure yours would be less than that. Even less if you planned to do it yourself.

does that sound like a reasonable guess? or would there be anything else? Also, would it be weorth doing the job myself? I dont have a garage, I live in an apartment complex. Is it a difficult job?

Maybe your fuel pump wire got unplugged when you got your jack out? Check to make sure the connection is good.

Check your ignition coil. Use a screw driver and see if it arcs to a ground.

ok, a couple of more questions. I checked the wires for the starter. How many volts should the fuel pump be getting? Which of the four wires are hot? and would the fuel pump make any sound when the key is turned in the auxillary position? Engine turns....doesnt start. Any help would be appreciated.

I just installed a fuel pump so I can answer your question about installing it. It isn't very hard at all. It just involves taking the pump assembly out of the hatch and installing a new pump in the assembly, which is only slightly difficult if everything is kind of stuck together from the years of use.

The pump only cost me around $100, and I also got a new filter which would probably be the best/easiest thing to do. Unfortunetely I forgot the price of the filter, though.

Sorry I can't help with the other issues.
