annoying water leak

everytime it rains or i wash my car it leaks into the driver floor board. i caught it in the act for the first time the other day and its dripping from somewhere behind the guage cluster. it doesnt leak into the engine bay so it cant be the brake/clutch cylinder holes or the speed cable hole.

it has to be leaking in through somewhere on the outer wiper bezel. are there any holes or drain tubes in the wiper grill tray that could lead inside?

Could be the windshield isn't properly sealed.
There aren't any drains from the cowl that enter the car.

ive taken the grill off a couple times and its too hard to see down in there. my first thought was the sunroof was leaking, but its dripping from behind the guage cluster so its impossible. there has to be a plg or screw or something that was unconciously removed.

Dry your carpet, use a hose and see where it comes from. Do you have any rust on your car?

There are drain holes in the cowl area under the hood. I don't remember exactly where, and don't have my car to look at, but I believe they are at either side of the firewall area, near each fender. I can't remember if they are under that black trim piece, next to it, or where. But, they are there somewhere and, if they are clogged, can cause the leak you describe.

Here's the best pic I could find on my computer, but it's not very good. It shows the drain hole on the passenger side; I believe it's a similar location on the driver's side.

The 1st and 2nd gen bodies share nothing in common, so solving this issue on a 2nd gen probably won't help you.

In your case, I would check to see if the windshield is sealed at the top. Additionally, if the door seals are dried out then water will tend to run through the a-pillar and end up under the dash.
