From which angle is it easiest to remove the O2 sensor?

I am trying to change the O2 sensor on my S5 N/A. Surely I can see the O2 sensor from the passenger side, but my 22mm wrench seems a big too big to fit in from above.

Do you jack up your car when you change its O2 sensor? What tool do you use?

You need a special O2 sensor socket. Harbor Freight has them for about $4. There is a socket type, and a 'crow's foot type.' I found the socket type to be not quite tall enough to clear the connector on the top of the sensor; I recommend the crows foot type. You will need a long extension for your 3/8" socket wrench.

And If you are changing the O2 sensor out and do NOT need it again, cut the wire off,and just use a regular Deep 22mm socket!
when you put the NEW O2 in,hand tighten and use a 6 inch adjustable.Done.

Take off the whole exhaust manifold (4 nuts to engine, 2 at the outlet), clamp it to a table and attack it from any angle you want.

One word of advice if you do decide to do it that way, don't put a foot up on the edge of the table to stabilize it, you will eat **** very hard when it breaks loose. I know from experience .

I ALWAYS have trouble with the 02 sensor removal. I've one of those 02 sockets too. Might try the crowsfoot next time.

But the question is, do you'all use some grease on the 02 sensor threads to make the next removal easier???????

I thought all 02 were hard to remove til I removed a sensor from a '98 Ford which was a piece of cake compared to the RX.

I never seem to have a problem with it. I wonder if its due to the stainless (RB exhaust) to steal of the O2.

Not regular grease, but specifically anti-sieze compound. The O2 sensor I just put in came with it already applied to the threads. I put some more on for good measure...
