Am I checking the fuel pressure right? (searched and checked FSM)

Ok, I did search and I did check the FSM, but I'm just making sure I'm doing this correctly.

I have my fuel pressure gauge in the feed line, before the primary fuel rail. So it's in between the fuel filter and the primary rail, pulsation dampener.

The only reason I'm wondering is I think my fuel pressure is way whacked.

I replaced the FPR and I'm still having problems, so I don't know if I happened to have 2 bad FPRs (one was original, the other came from an unknown source but looked new).

Here's what happens:

Turn the ignition to "on", haltech primes the pump, gauge shows 50-60psi, more like solid 60 IIRC.

I turn the key to start the car, when the car fires and starts the pressure shoots up to 80psi and stays there until the car dies (it won't run right now, hopefully because of this pressure issue!). After the car dies, the pressure bleeds off to about 40-50psi.

Any help and insight would be appreciated!

Where is your vacuum line to the fpr connected to?

Yep, it needs to be *after* the TB.
It sounds like it's before the TB right now.

You have a blockage *somewhere*. The pressure should have been in the 37psi range with just the pump running and you should have heard the flow of the fuel going thru the fuel rails back to the fuel tank.

Thats with a stock fuel pump.

Wouldn't it still have a base pressure of ~40psi even if the vac line was before the plates? Seems too high to me either way.

Er.. HAILERS wins..

I was wondering if something was blocked. I popped the fuel pressure gauge into the return line and it didn't register any pressure, should it? When I pulled the line there was fuel in it, however.

The vacuum source for the FPR is the nipple on the LIM below the secondary injectors, IIRC. Or it's one of the 3 on the back of the UIM close to the firewall, I don't remember at the moment lol. I'm 99% sure it's the on on the LIM though.

I don't think the return line has pressure, since it just drains back into the tank.

Read what you wrote and I think you'll see the initials TB don't belong there.

The FPR is always last, JSPEC or USA.

lol That's what I was thinking to, but I think he's talking about the vacuum line.

If so then yes, the vac feed for the FPR goes after the TB

Air bleed valves need fitting before the TB.
