I went back and looked at that picture. I swear, it has the charateristics of a engine that has had a pulsation damper fire. What makes me say that is the double throttle diaphram. It has the look of one thats been burnt. I know its nothing to do with your presnet problem, but has that engine ever been in a fire. Not knocking the car or you. It just has that look around the right side of the throttle body. Good luck with your new altenator.

EASY WAY to check the alternator

Get car running (Jump it) disconnect the battery+ if the car dies it's the alternator
