alternator hook up

Alright I have a S4 86 base body and I need to know what wire goes to my alternator. I have a standalone Microtech Lt8S as my EMS so no stock wiring harness. I remember someone telling me that its one of the plugs where the stock ECU would hook up. Like next to it or something.

There are 3:

The B terminal (w/ a ring terminal that attaches to the post)
The L terminal (that goes to the ignition switch)
The R Terminal (that goes to the dash)

The alternator does not go straight to the ECU, that would be stupid.

it goes to two things, the voltage meter and then also to the warning light cluster (it is from there that the alternator gets voltage to excite and start workign)

I was told that the plug next to where the stock ecu hooks up is where to connect the alternator. I wasn't very specific the first time. There is connector next to where the stock ECU hooks, it looks just like the alternator connector. Now does that wire lead to my dash? Becuase I'm not going to tear apart the dash to wire 2 things. It has to be somewhere stock and I just need to figure that out.

I still dont understand what you are trying to accomplish. Why wouldn't you just plug the alternator into it's connector......next to the alternator? Are you re-wiring a harness?

Ok, read your first post again and yes, indeed you are....

Have you removed the entire stock harness? Im not sure for certain about that "alternator" hook up next to the ECU, grab a wiring diagram from the FSM and find out for sure, or go the Microtech forum on here and ask them, they'd have a much better perspective.

I no longer have a stock harness. I went over to see anothe7 with the same standalone and it was a S4 TII. He had his alternator hooked on to the battery side harness. He said it was like that stock? The wiring for the ECU has always been there he never removed it when he hooked in his standalone, he also gotrod of the stock wiring harness.

Yes, the alternator is wired from the driver side harness, which leads me to believe that no, that connection is not for the alternator (near the ECU). Just get power to your EMS, make sure that you have a working volt guage, and that your battery is being charged and you've got no worries. Check out the wiring diagram for the alt. in the FAQ's
