Alternator belt snapped again??????

After replacing this last week, its snapped again after a fairly long trip, would anyone have any idea's why? Last time it also happened after a long trip........

I dont believe it was too tight or anything, possibly heat? but the temp gage didn't show any hotter then normal.....

Thanks for you help

Have you had the Alternator off lately? Is it possible that the little spacer is put onto the wrong side of the bracket, causing the alternator to sit in a different position, making the belt at an angle? Just an idea...

An easy test to do is take your thumb and your index finger and try to turn the belt. You should not be able to turn it 90 degrese.

The first thing that u should do is look at the old belt if it was new it may have glazed over before it came off. That means its slipping(oil or some kind of lubricant got sprayed onto it). The second possibility is that the pullies could be misaligned, just make sure that if you took off any washers and forgot to put them back, you replace them. You could also check for some kind of bur on any of your pullies that run the alternator belt, but I seriously dought thats the problem. However the most simple answer is that the belt that you purchased was a defect, I just had this happen to me, Make sure that the belt tension is around a 1/2" that should be good, I hope this helps you. Good Luck with your car.

I have not had the alternator off, but on closer inspection there is no spacer...... Does anyone know the part number for this or something that could be used in the same way?

If the Spacer/Doughnut was placed In the rear slot, the Alternator Belt would squel like an epoleptic pig before the Belt would snap. Fwiw, you do have the Spacer at the front of the Alternator?

Its been a while, but either S4 or S5s have a spacer built in to the alternator. I believe its S5s though.

I've got a s4. You know, that came with the miserable 60amp Alternator? It came with the spacer. Even when I upgraded to a s5 Alternator, than later a FD Alternator, I used It. Maybe the s5 Water Pump Housing's Alternator mounting point Is wider. Thus, allowing to not need the Spacer. I will find out when I drop In my s5 TII Motor/conversion due within a week or so.

I don't remember really. It could just be the alternator I bought, since it was aftermarket.
