Altenator pulley is sliping - Should I buy lighter pulleys?

Oh well, since I got rid of the air pump, my altenator belt is sliping time to time. Since I am kinda bord to tighten it up again and again, I am thinking of doing the dual altenator pulley in order to stop the sliping of the altenator belt.

Then I thought: Why shouldnt I change all the pulleys with lighter ones? Also I am wondering: Are ALL the aftermarket pulleys underdrive? Are there any that are simply lighter and not underdrive?

Should I have any gains from this? Should I do it?

My setup is simple:
2,5 downpipe, free flow catalyt, stock cat-back tubing, no air pump, A/C, cone filter, 0,5bar.

On the street if you have all the extras (AC, PW,PLocks, etc etc) go with the dual. On our race car we have a setup that really underdrives the alt and it doesn't make 12V until about 4K rpm. You can gain a few HP underdriving and if you run above 8k rpm a lot it will save the bearings in the alt. Underdriving the waterpump is fine though.
Its not about the weight of the pulleys, its the drag and lack of surface area for the belt to grip.

The weight of the pullies is totally insignificant and has nothing to do with the resistance placed upon the belts and crank. The reason aftermarket pullies are said to give you power is because the diameters are changed to underdrive the accessory in question so that less power is required to spin it.

yeah, okay, let's reinvent the wheel and spend 300 bucks on something that a 5 dollar belt will solve...

Sorry to hi-jack. But is really worth it to use an underdrive pulley? Considerable gains?

Or convert to serpentine? Gains?

Damn you are so good... hehehe! All of you!

I am going for the dual pulley at the altenator. Period.

BTW, 288 for pulleys? You gotta be joking...

the biggest problem that people experience with double belt pulley is to find 2 belts of exactly the same lenght

I dont understand why, I simply went to mazda dealer, ordered 2 alt belts, and specified that I wanted them the EXACT same lenght. I got them and they were allright.

hope this may help you to avoid the problem of having double pulley and only one belt working

Ok, a simple update for my friends here:

I but the double pulley yesterday. Its really nice. Mine is Knight Sports and I just love it! Being at the shop, I also bought some Magnecor wires and GReddy iridium sparks. They are excellent too!

About the altenator: Its not slipping now... LOL- I have the double pulley one day... but I will check it daily and see what happens.

Thanks guys for sharing opinions!

It never was. It's the water pump that slips, not the alternator.

It does now.
