Angry Alt. Belt wont stay tight!!!

For some reason it dosent matter how much or how many times i tighten my alternator belt after about a week of driving it comes loose again. Ive changed the belt, ive put three different alternators on and still the same thing. I even tried a fd alt. with a dual belt setup and still the same thing. Also another weird prob is, right now i have a s5 alt on it and it with the fd alt also when i first crank it i only get like 12 volts until i rev it to like 3500 rpms then it charges like 14.8??? wat could cause this also? I even put lock washers on the adjustment bolt and the big bolt and still comesl loose. i dunno if it coming loose or the belt is stretching but i dout it....well anyways somebody help me please!!

I may be able to explain the voltage issue, since I've had the exact same problem before. A wire runs from the alternator to the warning light cluster to the posotive terminal on the battery, this connection is activated with key to "start" I believe and gives the alternator juice to start charging. The cold solder on the back of the warning light cluster is busted, so the alternator is getting no power to initially produce a charge ( exciting the alternator ). When you get up to 3500 rpms the alternator "self-excites" and starts charging..... You can fix this by removing the dash and repairing the solder, or jumping the alternator.... as for the alternator slipping, try a different bracket or bolt maybe?

its because you tighten that **** too much on the alternator bolt and you probably stripped that **** so that **** wont go on tight

put a bolt and a nut on it then you can tighten it like a tight *** ************ and it should work

It probably has something to do with your other pulleys then. I had to replace my main pulley when I got my car because I kept throwing alt belts.

look around the waterpump and alt and belt routing area for fine powder of belt shavings. this happens when there is an alignment issue, can be caused my bad or bent alt (but it seems that you have already ruled that out), bad waterpump or bad crank pulley. do you have the air pump still? if not you need to run a double belt alt pulley or you don't have enough surface area on the water pump and itll make the belt slip and overheat the belt causing stretch and eventually itll snap.

theres a pulley somewhere that is probably bent or a shaft that is bent like the waterpump. you need to watch as it runs real closely and youll probably see a wobble probably like 1/16'' or so then replace. I kinda doubt that its the crank pulley but you never know. you may wanna find a level and check straightness of the pulleys.

ok i need to bring this back because im stilling having the same problem....i have a s5 alt on the car now with the stock pulley, i replaced the waterpump with a brand new one and put a new waterpump pulley off a good known car with no issues....while the engine is running it looks like the belt is wobbling....looks as if the main pulley at the bottom is wobbling also...i dnt have the extra two removable pulleys on the main pulley anymore, also dont have the metal washer spacer thing that goes on the outside...is it necessary?? maybe the four bolts in the main pulley arent the same i dunno one maybe be bigger could it throw it off???

sry for the long post help me out!!!!!

maybe someone sell me a good known main pulley

Yea, Id try to get a good main pulley back on there... Do you have any "shaft play"? Meaning can you pull or push the main pulley out or in at all? That could be the issue there...

You should take a look at the FSM to see where exactly that spacer goes. It sounds like it could be making a difference. My main pulley had tons of rust and pitting on it which would shred my belt. You could find one in the 2nd Gen for sale section i'm sure. Good luck.

how likely is it that the main pulley is bent or off center somehow making it wobble??

Off center.... not likely. It can only bolt on one way, which centers it. Bent? I dunno, take a look at tit. hehehe

I'd suspect the spacer isn't where it should be. It should be on the rear, not the front side of the alternator.

I'm talking about the spacer that goes on the long bolt that holds the alternator in place.

o the spacer that goes on the alt bolt is in the back...everything is lines up perfect its jst looks like the main crank pulley is wobbling the belt is like flapping about a half inch or more up and down while the engine is running on the upper left side....and it keeps getting loose...

I have to tighten my belt every 3 hours of driving and even when I do I can't rev more than 5000rpm or it squeels, then a bit more driving it starts to slip at 3000rpm, then 2500rpm, in the last 2 days I have stretched my belt longer than the maximum amount I can tension it.. this is my 2nd belt in the last week.. I deleted my ps/ac/air pump and I'm putting on a dual pully belt tomorrow so hopefully that will fix the problem.
