Almost 300k.
Morning everyone. I'm 2 days-ish away from 300,000 miles in my 1988 rx7 convertible.
I told my wife and she said 'what's the big deal?'. HA
So here I am telling you.

It's the original motor. I'm the third owner. An old man had it first and an old lady had it next so it's never been driven hard in it's life.
I got her and she was neglected but not mistreated.
I'm the slowest driving mid-30 year old on the planet so she'll last quite a bit longer.

nice, i don't think i have seen many go much beyond that.
unfortunately that also gives you an idea on how much more to expect from the original 3 piece seal engine. if it does go out it most likely will be due to dropping an apex seal out of the rotor slot, which will be ugly. one day it will just refuse to start or seize up.

I'm just assuming given the previous owners but who knows what my rotary has been through.
On the other hand, in the -20 degree weather here in the mountains of Idaho, it starts with absolutely no trouble. Hard to believe an original motor would do that, ya know?
not really, i rarely see n/a engines with compression issues unless they were rebuilt with marginal parts. original engines almost always have decent compression until the day they finally decide enough is enough.
figuring out if the engine is original can be difficult, if the engine was replaced early on or replaced with another original engine. the block has a serial number on the front iron but only mazda has records of which engine went into which car.

I see you have a rotary shop in Vegas... Hope to NOT see you soon

hehe, you may have to contact their support line to get a response.
just preparing you for the possibility of it not going much further than it has. not that i like to say that, i wish the seals were all 2 piece, they would last much longer. i can imagine there is probably an FB 2 piece engine out there with close to 500k on it somewhere(though the early engines had different issues, the chrome plating was weaker and stripped off earlier than later engines).

I haven't confirmed if it original or not but I would love to if there is a way.

Admission $1 dollar!....LOL!
That mileage on the original engine is pretty awesome. Do you plan on rebuilding it if it comes to that, and putting even more mileage on it? Besides for the engine, these cars seem to hold up incredibly well to age and wear.
High mileage cars just have more character...

thats awesome.
My GTUs has over 300k miles on the chassis.
Before me, I think it went through three engines. The original and one 13bt. Hell, I already went through two engines already in less than 5k miles LOL.
The chassis itself is pretty great for 300k miles, aside from the deer accident on the radiator support. No rust or frame damage. Bushings needs some serious replacement though...
Its great to see another 300k rx7 being on the road, and not as a pile of scrap heap
