For all who wanted to know the SR/Indigo flywheel weight fiasco.

I just got Kevin’s (RarestRX) new 9.5lb flywheel, and ACT street strip clutch assembly at work a min ago. I used our scale that we use for shipping weights at work and here are the results:

Flywheel: 8lbs
Counter weight: 3.5lbs
Total assembly weight (with out clutch): 11.5lbs

Now upon closer inspection looks like they sent out the wrong counter weight .

FSM and Parts fiche show the S5 AT counter weight as part # N351-11-521 the one that came in today was N327-11-521A Bummer looks like a RMA is in order.

Well doesn't that mean that the new couter weight will be even lighter, since the S5 rotors are lighter than the s4 ones?

Not necessarily, I am not sure what Mazda had to do to get the assembly balanced. But I would venture to take a guess that yes it would be lighter (but probably not by much). I will keep you all updated as information becomes available.

Yo,

Dana, use RMA # 289440. He said to strip all the hardware off the counterweight and use that box to ship it back, since the new counterweight will be plain jane.

You will have to pay for shipping back, but they will reimburse me and I'll pay you.

They put in 1988 RX-7 vs. 1989 RX-7 for my car. Luckily this ain't time critical. *grin*

You should see it on Monday.

Email/call if you need any more info...

Keep us informed on your impressions of driving feel with the new flywheel. I'm not talking drivability, I'm talking first and second gear from 4000-7000 rpm and how easy it gets to break those rear tires compared to before.
