Where are all the VIN plates? I know of the dash and the firewall. Oh and the door jam. Where else is there a vin plate? I may be going to do a vin plate swap for my TII because there are a lot of problems with the registration and I have a perfectly good tittle/reg. from Raquel(tear).

btw I am aware it is an offense to do so and what not. But I don't care because I own both damn cars and I just want to cut through all the bull **** my state has made up that makes it a PITA to do a previous owner search.

there are four.
VIN sticker in the door jamb, one rivited on to the dash, one stamped into a plate with your paint code attached with phillips head screws to the firewall, and one VIN stamped directly into the firewall.

The only one a Car needs to have, in Canada, is the one stamped into the firewall... changing it between cars requires some precision cutting, welding, grinding, filling, and painting. I would never do it, though. Not worth the risk to void your insurance.

hah I forgot about that one. I wonder how hard it would be to have a shop do that one. I'm sure I could probably do the rest myself.

Yeah, its the only tricky one, and the only one that's actually required.

Pretty big fines for a shop if they get caught doing that... makes them suspect as a chop shop, too. That being said, I am sure finding one to do it wouldn't be even remotely hard.

Why not just fill over the old VIN, sand it down, and get one of those kits with all the imprinting thingies and punch it back in? Then just spray over it.

So you're going to use an epoxy to fill in the VIN, then use a punch and a hammer to try and make new numbers and letters?
Guess what happens when you hit body filler with a hammer... it breaks off.
Guess what happens when you hit a piece of sheet metal with a drive without a rigid piece of metal behind it (like a anvil).... you get a dent.
Guess what happens when you cannot find punches to even closely resemble stock lettering... you get put in jail for insurance fraud.

Epoxy? Why not just like sort of weld over it, lots of excess, and just sand it down?

This is easier than welding in a new panel?

the panel is on the firewall, about 6-8" to the right of the cruise control vacuum housing. It's near the top of the firewall, pretty easy to get to.. I'd imagine it wouldn't be hard if you owned your own welder to mod one in, as it's raised up.. I don't think the punch method would work, but it may be worth a call to "Just ask, rental!' to see about a MIG

it shouldn't be, as the firewall will *cough* always be there Mine is in my center console, since it fell out of the defrost grating.

After reading this thread I think that it's very good that none of us are criminals, because we're not smart enough to get away with it.
