air pump removal question

I am kinda new to this stuff but dont be too harsh on my insufficient understanding. From my reading on this forum the majority say that it is fine to remove the air pump and avc and that it doesnt affect anything. But from my own reading( haynes Manual) the 6th port actuators are run off of the varying air pressure created by the air pump. so to me no air pump no 6th port. please help me understand this. Am I missing something?

What car do you have I have an S4 and the 5&6th ports work off of the backpresure from the exhaust but I believe that the S5 cars use the air pump. What year car do you have?

well,
you have a 91 according to your profile so it's an S5.

You are correct:
the auxiliary ports are operated via the air pump pressure on the S5

On S4, the ports open with exhaust back pressure only (past 3,500 rpm) assuming you still have the stock setup exhaust-wise.

Check posts by WOZZOOM. He's got a simple electric air pump setup to operate his auxiliary ports.

WOZZOOM uses RPM Switches, with the Air Pump. Not an electric air pump. He uses the switches for both the Auxilliary Ports and VDI Actuator.

yeah, sure it's rpm activated, but he still uses an electric air pump for the pressure, unless I was completely misled by his posts

Jeff was merely stating, to the original person with the question, to use an electronic air pump If your not using the original.

Even for that matter, he using, same as me previously before my own version of an rpm switch, air compressor and relay, an old EGR Valve, stock air pump and a rpm switch.

Remember, he Is still running ALL emissions, Including Air Pump.

Off topic but I have the original Dragon Lamp sconce. It has electrical Inserts that light up the dragon's eyes a cool red. I bought It primarily b'c of my sick Imagination of Dragons, Gargoyles, Griffins etc. Also b'c hand that Is holding the Dragon seems to be a lefty.

I seem to be somewhat of a collector of Windstone models. Give them a looksy @ http://www.ccgs.com/Merchant2/mercha...ategory_Code=7
