Air pump removal and no power after ~6000rpms

i removed the air pump today and plugged the pipe that goes from the air pump to the side of the rotor housing. i went for a test spin and the car doesn't want to spin over 6k (i need to get the rx7.com dual alt pulley so the fan doesn't slip, but belt dressing gets the job done for now), so i came home and removed the plug from the pipe and it still has nothing over 6k, it doesn't slow down but it doesn't accelerate any more. anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is? TIA

Yeah... the air pump provides the pressure to open your auxilary ports and your VDI since you have an S5.

Put the pump back on.

is there any other way to open those ports up, either through mechanical linkage or some other means, vs putting the pump back on?

Welcome fellow GTUs owner!! Like said before on a S5 (1989-1991) non turbo RX-7 the air pump is used to open your 5th and 6th ports and your VDI. I would put it back in. Is there any questions you have about modifying your GTUs?

Do you have any pic’s of your GTUs? Welcome to the club and send me an e-mail or PM if you have any questions.

Jusy put the pump back on. It's the easiest and simplest method, and it costs you nothing.

Go to www.iluvmyrx7.com and download the relevant chapters of the Factory Service Manual for your car. Read it and learn how it all works.

Like the others said, just keeping the pump on is the easiest and cheapest. If you have to remove it there are methods to open them aux. ports other ways. Just do a search for "5th and 6th ports" or "Aux ports."

ok, i have the 5th and 6th ports open with a little rigging for now and nothing really helped because i think i am getting detination, alittle ticking around 6k, so i am going to try some higher octane gas (93) and some fuel injector cleaner but if that doesn't work i am definitly going to put it back on. thanks for the advice everyone.

high octane gas

putting high octane gas in your rotary is like putting leaded fuel in a new honda, dont do it. Rotarys run the best on the lowest octane avail., people tend to load up with octane boost and 93 gas and when their rotary runs like **** wonder why...
