Air Pump Removal

I am going to order the hks adapter so i can build a custom intake. I have heard about removing the airpump aswell and that i need a block off plate so i was thinking that i might order that aswell. What are the benifits of doing this? What has to be done to do it? Is it worth doing at all? My cats are removed i have i RB downpipe, and presilencer.

Thanks for the help!

All the airpump does is supply the cats with fresh air. If you have no cats it's just dead weight.

I don't think you need a block off plate, you can just rip it out. You can leave one hose open, and plug the upper one so you don't have and exhuast leak.

what is your car? I assume that because you have a downpipe installed, you have a TII. Removing the air pump is a very good thing. when you remove it, you get rid of the parasitic drag from the main pulley, and, because you have no cats and no 6 ports to open, your air pump is currently doing absolutely nothing.

Ok, you have a Series 4. All the air pump does is keep the cats clean. I have done this in my 91 n/a. The block off plate is for the Air Check Valve, or AVC. It is the unit that actually provides the air to the cats, via the air pump. Get a Hayne's Manual, and look on pages 168-169. it gives you a step-by-step with pictures and a really well written how-to. It takes about 20 minutes, using hand tools. www.k2rd.com sells the block off plate for the ACV. If you have no cats, remove the air pump (2 bolts and a belt) and the ACV (3 bolts). Good Luck!!!

Heck yeah! Just get some aluminum from Home Depot as thick as a stop sign. Make sure and use some silicone sealant to seal it, and just reuse the ACV bolts to hold it on. ANd yes, you need to plug the hole coming from the split air pipe on the catalytic converter. It is a 3/4 inch tube heading to the engine from the presilecer. Just use some exhaust sealant (like $2 for a tube at any parts store) or the best opeion is weld the hole shut.
