air pump related question

so i got this jdm motor it came with a broken air pump, i was gonna run it without it but then after hooking up the vaccum lines to that spider stuff nx to the uim i thought that the air pump is what helped with that? do i need the air pump in order to use those vaccum sources? and will my old s5 NA airpump just bolt up to the jdm s5 block ?

Turbo engines don't need the air pump for anything but emissions. You also couldn't use an NA air pump and bracket without some significant modification. I was going to attempt it with my S4 J-spec engine, but found that the airpump it came with worked fine after spinning it by hand a bunch of times.

If you have a cat you need the air pump to avoid destroying or, worse, clogging the cat though. Otherwise you're dumping fuel into a low air tail pipe and that's about it; all the negative consequences are environmental.
