Air Pump Question
Air Pump Question
I have searched and come to 2 possible conclusions... first, the explanation...
I have an 88 vert, and the exhaust smell while I am driving is more than it probably should be. I had an 88 vert once before (with only 110k miles) and the smell wasnt like this at all. So after searching and reading around.. one of 2 things is going on..
btw - the car runs prefectly fine...
It is either an exhaust leak, which, when i get my oil changed next week, im going to have them look for.
or my air pump isnt doing what it should be. i have read around and seen that the air pump helps burn up left over fuel/hydro carbons after combustion. well, my air pump has lots of miles on it.
What i'm curious about is, is there a way to test the air pump? I looked in the FSM and it says use an air gauge, which i dont have. Is there some outward sign that would tell me "yup - air pump" or no?
I'm also going to readjust the idle according to the FSM becasue apparently the cariable resistor can lean out the car too.
thoughts?

Maybe your FC doesn't have a catalytic converter?
The airpumps will rarely go bad. It's working as long as it's physically there spinning, pumping air away!
If you don't believe me, there is a hose behind the airpump (not the one going to the airbox). Disconnect that and you will feel air.
