Air pump question?

ok when i bought my 7 the air pump is still hooked up hoses and all but there is no belt running to it. so ive read that without it hooked up my secondary flapper wont open or something like that anything else? also the other thing and i believe it also runs off the air pump is the hose that runs to the cat is busted off at the cat. so what are all the negative things that could come from this? could this be causing my bouncing idle?what should i do? remove the pump and hoses or replace the belt? can that hose be fixed to go back onto the cat? should i just replace the cat while im at it?

oooh... we have an 87 NA... we took our belt off of the air pump... because it was disconnected before, with no issues, and only had the belt on there to comply with state emissions testing back in the day when the state still required emissions on older vehicles.

So I'd like to know if the air pump truly is needed? I was told it was not needed, that it killed power, and made me have worse MPGs...

Glad this post caught my eye. Never thought to ask someone on here about it.

the 91 is an s5 it needs to have the air pump hooked up to activate the 5/6th port actuators it will effect your top speed and if your ports are closed it might make your idle suck
had that problem i took the sleeves out
make sure u search about the s5 5/6th ports
