Basicly on an S5 non turbo it controls the 6 port induction system, and it sends air into the catalytic converter to warm it up. It also routes air into the emissions system. Mine broke and I have been running my 6PI wired open with the yoohoo belt mod for the waterpump, until I can get a steel one made.

seems like your not worried about emissions. i dont really remember how the six pports are activated. i thought it had something to do more with exhaust flow. Being that you dont have a cat you probably dont have the stock exhaust and then leading me to think your six ports probably arnt hooked up. So removing the airpump probably wouldnt matter. If it was my car i would want the six ports working it improves the ow end performance of the engine

Don't forget your VDI.. You'll need to wire that open as well.. but after you do that.. You can remove the air pump. Why not just get another one?

Variable Dynamic Effect Intake (should be VDEI not just VDI) It is on on the S5's so don't worry about it. Basicly you don't need the air pump, but unless you get the yoohoo belt your water pump will slip when you get on it. You can just go to a local lawnmower shop and pick one up for $5 like I did too.

It doesn't do that to warm the cats up. Ambiant air can't warm a cat thats at ambiant temps Its there to introduce air into the car to help burn off unburnt fuel or....there's something else, crap I can't remember.

What heats up the CATs is the exhaust heat from cold start. you know that 3000rpm startup? Thats what that is for. The cats will still warm up without it reving that high, just a little slower.
